Thank you for visiting this site.

I have heard only one piece of his. I believe it was called "Fantasy On the Twelfth Night", a brilliant reworking of "The Twelve Days Of Christmas". That was a very long time ago: for- ty five years or so. It's nice to find this site.

Had it not been for the influence of my 15-years-older half-brother Bill, my life would have lacked many of it's creative challenges, and I believe that being challenged is the origin of happiness. Bill may have thought of himself as a tonal coelacanth, but for me he was a spiritual father.

I like what I have just learned about Wm Bersma' style, giving emphasis to lyricism, texture and form. I believe I would have benifitted greatly as his student.

Although I studied with William Bergsma for only one year, while at the University of Washington in the mid-1970's, I was always touched by the beauty and architecture of his music, and by the great human kindness and understanding he showed me. William Bergsma was not only a great composer, but also a great man, and he helped shape me as a composer in ways I'm only now just beginning to understand. I will always count it among my life's honors to have studied with him and to have copied parts for several of his large ensemble works. There are many of us former students who owe him a huge debt of gratitude for helping us in those uncertain formative stages of our careers. My memories of him are the fondest. Wherever you may be in spirit, Professor Bergsma, thank you!

This is a very beautiful site. It is an impressive body of work that William Bergsma produced. I shall have to expose myself to his work.

I am glad to see that an official site has finally been created to honor my favorite 20th century composer.
