The Yamaha Piano Salon is located at 689 5th Ave., between Madison and 5th Aves., 3rd Floor, New York, NY. Further details, including tickets and program to be announced. Fanny and Nathalie Tran, duo pianists, will perform Ariadne's Crown, date and venue to be announced. Bruce Gbur will give the US premiere of Lay Your Shadow on the Sundials at Kansas State University during the academic year 2005-2006. Lay Your Shadow on the Sundials is scored for two bassoons and narrator. Bruce Gbur is a professor of Double Reeds and Director of the KSU Collegium Musicum. Details to be announced. CONCERTS and RADIO BROADCASTS: 1996 - 2007 Duo Gastesi-Bezerra performed Reverberations from the Invisible Universe on April 4th 2008 at the University Auditorium Univsity of Florida in Gainesville. Owens' daughter, Maggie, was interviewed on the radio on March 10, 2008. The station, WXEL, Palm Beach's local NPR affiliate, streamed the program live. It focused on the New Music Festival being held at Palm Beach Atlantic University March 13-15 and several of the featured composers and musicians were interviewed. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra performed Reverberations from the Invisible Universe at Palm Beach Atlantic University on March 14, 2008. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra presented a lecture on Owens' work entitled "Terry Winter Owens' Musical Reverberations: A Lecture Recital" at the prestigious 2008 South Central-Southern SuperRegional Conference of The College Music Society. The lecture was followed by performances of three of Owens' two piano works. The lecture / recital was at Louisiana State University on in Baton Rouge, LA on February 29 2008. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra performed Ancient Fire on February 14th 2008 at the University of Miami, FL.Composer/pianist Scott Mayfield presented the world premiere of Rhapsody from the Fabric of Spacetime on a program of Owens' piano music. He also performed Rendezvous with Hyukatake, Red Shift, Spectral Glow, The Rapture of Beta Lyrae and The Bending of the Light and the Space-time Continuum. The concert, entitled "Anthem to the Stars," took place February 7th-10th 2008 in the planetarium at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas. Messages for Raoul Wallenberg was performed on January 29, 2008 at at St. Peter's, Citigroup Center, Lexington at 54th, New York City by ensemble Le Nuove Musiche featuring soprano Patricia Sonego, violinist Marka Young, cellist Duo-Lin Peng and pianist Michael Eisenberg. Pianists Tomoko Deguchi and Jennifer Austin presented Ariadne's Crown as one of the compositions for the two piano music recital for the "living composers" concert series on January 27, 2008 in Barnes Recital Hall at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, South Carolina. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra performed Ariadne's Crown on November 8th, 2007 at the Brazilian-American Cultural Institute in Washington, DC; December 27th at the Studentski Kulturni Centar Beograd and on the 28th City Hall in Novi Sad, Serbia. Claire and Antoinette Cann dedicated their "Chaminade" concerts to the memory of Terry Winter Owens and their professor Phyllis Sellick. The concerts were September 11, October 2 and November 27, 2007 at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, UK. Isabelle O'Connell performed Red Shift on October 25th, 2007 at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York City. Duo46 performed Elegy for the Nephew of Prince Mukhransky, which was dedicated to the duo, at on September 30, 2007 at the Ewell Recital Hall at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA. Their concert was dedicated to Terry's memory. The Sofia Quartet dedicated their all-Grieg concert on Sunday September 30th, 2007 to Terry's memory, thanks to cellist Geoffrey Dean, who marked up the fingering and bowing for "Cellestial Music Book I". Multi-talented filmmaker, playright and singer Omonike Akinyemi used tracks off "Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart" as incidental music for her new musical "How to Stay Sane in Paris." It was presented in New York from August 28th through Sept. 2nd 2007 in New York City. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra arranged for www.wxel.org (NPR for Palm Beach) to do a segment on Terry's music Thursday, August 9th, 2007 . Marcio was interviewed and the duo played Ariadne's Crown live on the air. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra performed Ariadne's Crown on June 16, 2007 at the Pinacoteca Benedito Calixto in Santos, SP, Brazil. Spectral Glow for piano and narrator was performed at 8 pm on both April 25 and April 28, 2007 in Cheney Hall, Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH. The performance was by pianist Mo Li Gong and Defenestration. The Eighth Elegy for soprano, violin and piano and Rilke Sings for chorus, piano and timpani were premiered at the Zaal Parnassus in Gent, Belgium on June 2, 2007. The Eighth Elegy was performed by Paul Klinck, violin, Ann Deprest, soprano and Koen Van Overberghe, piano. Rilke Sings was performed by the Novecanto chorus under the baton of Katrijn Friant with percussionist Lisa Cook. Isaac Nagao performed Rendezvous with Hyakutake on March 17th, 2007 at Sakaiminato City Symphony Garden, Japan 2007. Rendezvous with Hyakutake was awarded second prize in the "Contemporary Japanese and American Music (CJAM) 2007." Duo Gastesi-Bezerra presented the world premiere of Reverberations from the Invisible Universe on March 8th 2007 at Tavern on the Green Cafe in Wellington FL. Messages for Raoul Wallenberg was performed Reizen Ensemble featuring soprano Patricia Sonego on January 17th 2007 in New York City. The concert was presented by the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation in commemoration of the anniversary of his disappearance in 1945. Claire and Antoinette Cann presented the world premiere of In the Fullness of Time for two pianos and narrator on November 28, 2006 at the Fairfield Halls, London. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra performed Ariadne's Crown at the gala grand opening afternoon gala of the 2006 International New Music Festival CCSN's 5th International New Music Festival, September 23rd, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Duo Gastesi-Bezerra presented the Brazilian premiere of Ariadne's Crown on June 13th at the Universidade de São Paulo-Ribeirão Preto. Martha Bixler and Pat Hanley gave the US premiere of Lay Your Shadow on the Sundials on June 10th, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Rochester, NY. The piece is scored for three low recorders and narrator and is published by The American Recorder Society. Ross Winters and Chris Orton performed Lay Your Shadow on the Sundials on June 2nd 2006 at St. Swithins School,Winchester, England at a conference of the European Recorder Teachers Association. Pianist Nathalie Tran performed Rendezvous with Hyakutake on May 31st 2006 at La Maison Communale de Molenbeek in Brussels, Belgium along with works by Bach, Liszt, Chopin and Debussy. Messages for Raoul Wallenberg was performed on April 28, 2006 in Snider Recital Hall, California State University Stanislaus. Performers were Deborah Kavasch, soprano, Carol Mae Scott, flute, Dan Davies, cello, and Stephen Thomas, piano. Letters to Richard Feynman and Percussive Ruminations, both for small percussion ensemble and narrator, received their European premiere in Ireland under the joint direction of Morris Lang and Richard O'Donnell, April 20 and 22, 2006. The performances were at the Helix in Dublin as part of a festival of music for percussion from around the world. These two pieces received their US Premiere at the Brooklyn Conservatory. The brilliant pianist, Liliana Maffiote, performed The Bending of the Light and the Resonant Continuum on May 4th, 2006 in Barcelona at the Conservatori Municipal Musica on a mostly Mozart program. Liliana narrated the text in Catalan. The translation of Owens' text was generously provided by Drs. Seymour and Lillian Resnick. Liliana premiered The Bending of the Light in 2003 in Barcelona and Francisco Monteiro gave the US premiere at a Composer Concordance program in 2004. Percussive Ruminations for Percussion Ensemble and Narrator was premiered by The Brooklyn Conservatory Percussion Ensemble and the Royal Irish Academy's Music Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Morris Lang and Brian Willson on April 11, 2006. Expanding Orbits for viola and piano and The Last Sweetness for flute, piano and narrator was performed on March 24 2006 at West Palm Beach Atlantic University, West Palm Beach, Florida. Clarinetist Jan Guns played Klage on Jan. 26, 2006 at the European School in Abingdon, England. The program also featured works by Mozart and R. Schroyens. Pianists Estibaliz Gastesi and Marcio Bezerra performed Ariadne's Crown on Monday, Jan. 16th at the Royal Palm Beach Cultural Center Cultural in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. The concert followed a breakfast celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. Klage was performed by bass clarinetist Terumichi Aoyama at a private concert in Belgium on Dec. 4th, 2005. Letters to Richard Feynman, a new work for percussion duo and narrator, commissioned by Brian Willson and Morris "Arnie" Lang, was premiered by these two eminent percussionists on Nov. 18th, 2005. The Merling Trio performed The Pure Space into which Flowers Endlessly Open on October 29th, 2005 at the Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Pianists Estibaliz Gastesi and Márcio Bezerra performed Ariadne's Crown on Oct. 28th at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Pure Space Into Which Flowers Endlessly Open was performed by the Merling Trio at Bowling Green University's New Music and Art Festival, on Oct. 28th, 2005. Jan Guns' new CD "Windows on the Bass Clarinet" produced by PHAEDRA Records has been chosen by radio KLARA in Belgium as CD of the week. The fourth track on the CD is a masterful performance of Klage scored for bass clarinet, triangle and narrator. During the week of 10 October 2005, for 5 days, works from the CD -- including Klage -- were broadcast by radio KLARA on the Fred Broewers program. The Last Sweetness for flute, piano and narrator, was performed at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, June 3, 2005. Flute: Christine Perea; Piano: Hirome Abe; Narrator: Patricia Sonego. This concert was the first in a series entitled "New Music for New Beginnings" in which New York City based composers and performers present their music in venues around the city to raise money for under funded school music programs, expose young musicians to contemporary music, and reach new audiences; thus strengthening the community through the creation and experience of music and art. Messages for Raoul Wallenberg was performed on May 31, 2005 in NYC at Saint Peter's Church at the Citigroup Center on a program of works by The New York Composers Circle. The performers were Patricia Sonego, soprano; Mary Barto, flute; Diliana Momtchilova, cello and Nancy Garniez, piano. 10 Preludes for Vibraphone were be performed by Michael Bailly on May 7, 2005 at Ohio University. This recital wass in partial fulfillment of the Degrees of Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance for Mr. Bailly. Ariadne's Crown and the world premiere of Ancient Fire were performed at the Klangfruehling festival May 7, 2005 by Duo Pianists Johannes and Eduard Kutrowatz. Ariadne's Crown for one piano, four hands, was performed by Richard Lopez & Caroline Salido-Richardson at the Riley Auditorium, Batelle Fine Arts Center at Otterbein College, Westerville, Ohio on Monday May 2nd 2005. The concert was part of Otterbein College's festival Women in Music: A Celebration of Accomplishment. Ariadne's Crown was performed by pianists Alex DiCicco and Laurie Landerholm, members of The Contemporary Music Ensemble, on April 27, 2005 and April 30th, 2005 at Franklin Pierce College, in Rindge, New Hampshire. Composers' Forum at Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, April 5th 2005 Owens played play some excerpts from the CD "Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart" and talk about the "audible landscape," composing for piano, translating Rilke, etc. Cellestial Music Book I: The Facts of Light was performed by cellist Kumi Otte Kondo on April 9, 2005 at the Gemeenschapscentrum Essegem in Brussels, Belgium. This program was part of a two-day international festival of music for cello organized by Cellist Stijn Kuppens. Cellestial Music Book I: The Facts of Light includes narration of prose/poetry performed by the cellist. This festival was a benefit for Médecins sans Frontières - Doctors Without Borders. The Merling Trio performed Owens' piano trio, The Pure Space Into Which Flowers Endlessly Open on Jan. 23, 2005 at the Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, Ohio. The Merlng Trio premiered this work in 1998 at Carnegie Recital Hall to a sold-out audience. Ancient Breath of the Sea and Pulling Away from the Material World was performed in Arkansas City, Kansas at Cowley College by Temporal Mechanics Union under the direction of Chris Mayer on December 9, 2004. 336: Sources of Light for solo marimba was performed by percussionist Tatiana Koleva in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on Nov. 20, 2004 in the Uilenburger Synagogue. The Bending of the Light and the Resonant Continuum was performed by Portuguese piano virtuoso Francisco Monteiro on Nov. 19th 2004 at Christ & St Stephen's Church, NYC. Ariadne's Crown for two pianos was performed in Trieste, Italy at the Luigi Nono Festival by pianists Francesco Di Fiore and Ljudmila Valent on Nov. 6, 2004. The program also featured works by Philip Glass and Francesco di Fiore who is a gifted composer as well as a brilliant pianist. Ancient Breath of the Sea and Pulling Away from the Material World was performed in New York City at the CUNY Graduate Center by Brian Willson, vibraphone; Christine Perea, flute; Cigdem Borucu, piano; Douglas Cohen, narrator on Oct. 28th, 2004. Geoffrey Dean performed the US premiere of Cellestial Music Book I: The Facts of Light for unaccompanied cello and narrator, at the Chaffee Center for the Arts in Rutland, Vermont on July 28th, 2004. Ross Winters performed Lay Your Shadow on the Sundials on July 11th 2004 at the historic Roughton Church in Norfolk, U.K. Messages for Raoul Wallenberg, composed in 1991 and winner of the International Alliance of Women in Music's Miriam Gideon Prize in 2002 was premiered at the 14th Annual IAWM Concert of Chamber Music by Women Composers at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, California, on June 6, 2004. Messages for Raoul Wallenberg is scored for soprano (or tenor), flute, cello and piano. Deborah Kavasch sang. Roger Arve Vigulf, the brilliant, versatile Norwegian clarinetist/composer who has played Klage many times in Europe, played it in Los Angeles on June 2nd 2004 at The Pacific Contemporary Music Center, California State University. The program will also featured Roger's own compositions and those of John M. Kennedy. Claire and Antoinette Cann performed Pianophoria #3 in Doha, Qatar on May 22 and in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on May 23, 2004. Klage was played at the Synagoge Concert-Wort und Ton on May 18, 2004 at at 7:30 PM in Schlaining, Austria (just south of Vienna) by clarinetist Alexander Neubauer and actor Georg Kusztrich. This concert was part of the 2004 Klangfruehling festival. The program for the evening, "Wort und Ton," was offered as "...a poetic journey of sound (words and music) in the atmospheric setting of a library. The spoken word merges with a music and from the sound of the instruments words emerge -- verses by Rilke, Hesse, Jandi, Altmann and Fried." Ross Winters and Chris Orton performed Lay Your Shadow on the Sundials at the Birmingham (England) Conservatoire on April 28th 2004. Brian Willson performed Ancient Breath of the Sea and Pulling Away from the Material World, a two movement work for trumpet, vibraphone, piano and narrator, in Istanbul, Turkey in April 2004. Claire and Antoinette Cann played Ariadne's Crown on March 13th, 2004 at Friend's School, Mount Pleasant Rd, Saffron Walden, Essex, England. Roger Vigulf performed Klage at Risoer Church, Norway, February 29th 2004 at 7:00 p.m. The world premiere of Magnetized by the Triangular Flight, for piano and narrator composed in 1999, with text from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's Wind, Sand and Stars was performed at the Église Française du Saint-Espirit, in New York City on February 15th, 2004. The composer performed both piano and narration. The program "Remembering Antoine de Saint-Exupéry" was sponsored by the American Society of Le Souvenir Français. In Norway, Roger Vigulf performed Klage at Arendal Concert Hall, February 13th, 2004 and at Grimstad Concert Hall on February 14th, 2004. Flutist Nina Assimakopoulos performed the World Premiere of Supernova on Feb. 12, 2004 in New York City at the Greenwich House Music School. The music includes a poem by the composer. Klage was performed by Roger Arve Vigulf at Henie-Onstad Center of Art January 10th, Ibsenhuset-Skien, Norway January 18th and at Galleri F15 in Moss, Norway January 25th 2004. The Bending of the Light and the Resonant Continuum for Piano and Narrator was premiered by Liliana Maffiote on December 5th 2003 in the Eduardo Toldra Auditorium, in Barcelona. Cellestial Music Book I: The Facts of Light for unaccompanied cello and narrator was premiered by renowned cellist Geoffrey Dean in Bulgaria at the American University in Blogoevgrad on Nov. 17th 2003. Facts of Light was on a program called wordPlay as part of the annual American Music Week festival. Ariadne's Crown, a work for two pianos, and my most widely performed composition, was played on Nov 13th 2003 at The Third Street Music Settlement in New York City on a program of 20th/21st century music. The program included some of the "greats" of the 20th century including Bartok, Carter and Ligeti. The unusual aspect of this concert is that it is a student recital. Ariadne's Crown will be performed by two 14 year old students of Marc Ponthus, whom I admire for taking on a piece of this difficulty -- and my compliments to Marc Ponthus for giving them this challenge. Marc Ponthus is on the faculty at The Third Street Settlement and is himself a supremely gifted pianist, conductor and composer. Ancient Breath of the Sea and Pulling Away from the Material World, a work in two movements commissioned by Brian Willson, was be premiered at Brooklyn College's Levenson Hall on Nov. 2nd 2003. A repeat performance was held on Dec. 3rd at the CUNY Graduate Center. The piece, which is scored for Trumpet, Vibraphone, Piano and Narrator, was performed by Ben Bierman - trumpet, Brian Willson - vibraphone, Teresa Rosas - Piano and Douglas Cohen - Narrator. The text is Owens' English translations of two poems of Rainer Maria Rilke. Disclavier-Das Klavier, a one-minute piece for Disklavier, written especially for the 60x60 project, which premiered on Nov. 2nd, 2003 in New York City. On Sept. 13th 2003, Owens was the featured composer on Kalvos & Damian's New Music Bazaar. The show was broadcast in Vermont and Provincetown, Mass. and via live cybercast. In addition to an hour-long interview, they played various tracks from Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart, a CD of Owens' piano music performed by the brilliant Portuguese pianist and composer Francisco Monteiro. 336: Sources of Light was performed by Percussionist Rich Dart in "An Evening With Rich Dart and Friends: A Night Filled With Music and Fun." on August 23, 2003 to raise funds for the Richard S. Dart Memorial Arts Scholarship. The show, at Andrews Memorial Town Hall in Clinton, CT, also featured works of music by Thelonious Monk, Russ Becker, William Ryan, Eric L. McIntyre, Paul Siskind, and Jeff Day, as well as works composed by Rich, himself. Red Shift for piano and narrator was performed by pianist Adam Bowles on August 3, 2003 in Birmingham, Alabama in the Birmingham Art Music Alliance/Vox Novus Exchange Concert at the Unitarian-Universalist Church. Several performances by Claire and Antoinette Cann of Ariadne's Crown for two pianos at the Exeter Festival on July 15, 2003 at The Mint Methodist Church, The program will also featured Schubert's Fantasia in F Minor and works by Tchaikovsky and Borodin. Pianophoria Book II Excerpts will be performed by pianist William Troop on Sunday May 25, 2003 at 3 pm at St. Michael's Church in Amagansett, NY. The event was to dedicate the church's new piano and benefit the World Hunger Fund. The Adulterer, a film by Douglas Morse with piano music by Owens at the Third Annual Bicycle Film Festival Thursday, May 8th 2003 at the Anthology Film Archives, New York. Ariadne's Crown, for two pianos performed by duo pianists Claire and Antoinette Cann on May 2, 2003 at the Erin Arts Centre, the Isle of Man, England. Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart, the CD of my piano music performed by Francisco Monteiro was broadcast on Eine Kleine Frauenmusik, hosted by Jeanne Shaffer on Southeastern Public Radio on April 27th, 2003 in Alabama. The stations carrying this program were: WTSU 89.9, WRWA 88.7 and WTJB and 91.7. At the very same day and hour, at A.R.T. Space in Brooklyn, NY some of the pieces represented on that CD were exquisitely performed live by three gifted pianists, Hiromi Abe, Ju-Ping Song and Pei-Chun Chen. This concert was produced by Vox Novus. Adagio for Recorder and Piano performed by Ross Winters, recorder and Christopher Green-Armytage, piano at The King of Hearts Arts Centre, in Norwich, England on Feb. 2, 2003. Romancing the Stars, a concert produced by Vox Novus and the Living Music Foundation featured four works for piano: Rendezvous with Hyakutake performed by Pei-Chun Chen, The Rapture of Beta Lyrae performed by Ju-Ping Song and Red Shift and Spectral Glow performed by pianist Hiromi Abe and narrator Richard Stein; at ART/Space in Brooklyn, NY In April, 2003. Rendezvous with Hyakutake My Room and This Vastness: String Quartet #4 Klage (Lament) for Clarinet, Narrator and Percussion Homage to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry for Violin, Cello, Piano and Narrator performed at Lynn University's Born in America Festival, Boca Raton, FL, USA.
